Our entire school focuses on the premise that Character Counts. Michael Josephson, President of the Character Counts Coalition, states Character is what a person is inside. Our character is revealed by how we act when we think no one is looking. It is how we treat people who we think cannot help or hurt us. A person of character has good ethical values that distinguish right from wrong and a strong commitment to do what is right even when it is inconvenient, uncomfortable, or personally costly. Character, in short, is moral strength.
Good character does not develop automatically. It is a result of conscientious efforts to instill and reinforce ethical values in a way that makes them second nature. This sense of right and wrong is referred to as conscience. Conscience is the moral compass of character.
Each month, at a school assembly, a new trait is introduced. Students are challenged to follow the behavior of the model presented. Rewards are issued for positive efforts. |
